What is Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO)?

Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), a by-product of the wood industry, has been in use as a commercial solvent since 1953. It is also one of the most studied but least understood pharmaceutical agents of our time--at least in the United States. According to Stanley Jacob, MD, a former head of the organ transplant program at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, more than 40,000 articles on its chemistry have appeared in scientific journals, which, in conjunction with thousands of laboratory studies, provide strong evidence of a wide variety of properties. Worldwide, some 11,000 articles have been written on its medical and clinical implications, and in 125 countries throughout the world, including Canada, Great Britain, Germany, and Japan, doctors prescribe it for a variety of ailments, including pain, inflammation, scleroderma, interstitial cystitis, and arthritis elevated intercranial pressure. It has also been studied as a treatment for cancer, central nervous system, and it is a powerful anti oxidant. One of its most widespread uses is as a transdermal carrier of pharmaceutical products.

Our DMSO (USP) is manufactured in dedicated equipment utilizing patented technology, under GMP conditions, and in adherence with the guidelines supported by U.S. and Canadian Drug Master Files. All product quality parameters are certified to meet or exceed the standards set forth by the U.S. Pharmacopeia.

-Enhances skin permeation! USP DMSO has been proven to enhance the permeation of many APls through human skin. Is more effective than ethanol and safer than other dipolar aprotic enhancers. 50% and 70% concentrations are shown to greatly enhance the delivery of a tetracaine example vs. that of the ethanol vehicle alone.

Why is USP Grade DMSO more expensive than industrial grade DMSO?

USP grade DMSO cost many times more to produce than industrial grade DMSO. In order to meet the standards for USP, the manufacturer must follow a very strict set of guidelines for manufacturing, production and containment. These guidelines assure that the product is contaminent free and pure enough to be used for the purposes of human pharmaceutical preparations. Industrial grade DMSO, has very little in the way of standards as its intent for usage is for industrial purposes such as chemical cleanup and paint stripping. As such, the manufacturing process has very little in the way of quality controls, meaning that the DMSO could be contaminated by a variety of toxic compounds including heavy metals.

Why should you buy only USP DMSO?
USP grade DMSO is intended for pharmaceutical preparations. As such, it is free of the contaminants that my be found in industrial grade DMSO. USP DMSO is odorless, which is a major complaint among DMSO users, it is specifically prepared for pharmaceutical applications and as such has a higher bioavailability and soluability ratio. Studies on soluability show a yield of 31 grams of testosterone per 100 ML's of USP DMSO! This means that less DMSO is needed for topical preparations.
