Phenibut for benzodiazepine withdrawal
Mike at 1fast400, whom many of you know as a CEM sponsor, generously sent me a sample of his company's Phenibut powder. This is part of an attempt I'm making to ease the symptoms of my withdrawal from a dependence on benzodiazepines; xanax in particular. Mike has an excellent writeup on Phenibut in his company's catalog which discusses the anxiolytic (antianxiety) properties of this compound:
Thus far it really does seem to be working, although I just started. Normally at this hour (2AM) I'd be up stressed out about something or other, unable to write. I'm still up, more out of habit than insomnia, happily reading through the latest issue of Mind & Muscle Magazine feeling unstressed. I will update this thread and let you know if the Phenibut continues to work over the next few days, and if I experience any symptoms when I ultimately withdraw from the Phenibut. Or perhaps I'll be able to continue to use the Phenibut but only on occasions that are particularly stressful. I'll just have to see. But for now I'm happy with it.
As a note, and this is evident from the writeup I linked to, Phenibut has a number of other possible uses that readers may want to check out.
And of course, you can't go wrong shopping at 1fast400

good catch nandi, sounds interesting. I would be interested in its use for insomnia.

Do you know if it's phenibut-HCL?
If so, it seems to be a good price at 1fast400.

Nandi, I believe that after a few weeks of use a tolerance is achieved. Are you planning to back it up with something having a longer half-life? Inositol? A weak second messanger, I know.

Headdoc, my goal is to use it only for the short term to (I hope) avoid the development of serious tolerance, following the protocol suggested by reference (2) in the 1fast400 writeup.
For me, stress generally is only an issue at night, so I can limit the dosing to once a day, lessening the development of tolerance to this relatively short-lived drug.
Qrios, the literature generally uses the shorthand beta-phenyl-GABA for the complete chemical name beta-phenyl-gamma-aminobutyric acid HCl so I believe the answer to your question is yes.

The tolerance thing is very real, sadly enough. I'm going to take a few weeks off myself, as I don't even feel 9 grams anymore.

Wow. I'm doing OK on a gram so far and have managed to stay off the benzos. I've about used up my current supply of Phenibut so I guess I'll see if I can stay off the benzos once I quit the Phenibut.

great news. stay with it.

I've stuck with the phenibut and managed to wean myself from the benzodiazepines. That is one supplement that really works. I want to thank Mike at 1fast400 for providing me with a sample as part of my withdrawal experiment.
And I did not develop a dependence on the phenibut. I can take it to relax if the urge hits me, or not.

again congradulations. Your testamonial contradicts some of the short term experiences reported by others over on the Avant labs site. Of course the long term reports from yourself and others using phenibut will be most useful.

Thanks, headdoc. From reading some of the posts at Avant, it seems like a lot of those guys are just looking for a new way to get high. I think phenibut combined with some will power is a viable means for achieving what I had in mind. But at the risk of sounding trite, once an addict always an addict, so as you point out, only the long term will tell.

Thanks for the feeback nandi12.
Pheni is a wonderful supplement however and yes, many will use it as a new means to get "lifted". I too have experimented for this reason, you know, all in the name of science.
Anyhow, for responsible use, I feel it really has merit, especially in a benzo addiction scenario. I would also suspect it to work quite well for those addicted to alcohol as well.
Anyways, glad to hear you are doing well. Keep up the good work and be sure to kep us updated.
Quick question, when you are feeling the need for the use of benzo's, after ingesting pheni, how long before it's effects are noticeable?

Qrios, you wuss . Even my wife takes it now instead of melatonin and she turns up her nose at regular tuna. She says it's like cat food as she fills the cart with the most expensive albacore she can find. Hell, there's hardly any money left for drugs when she's done shopping
